Both players top 16-under, ahead of the fourth and final round of the 150th Open Championship in Scotland on Sunday.
"My day wasn't good. After a tough first 11 or 12 holes, to get something like that (on hole 13), "said Smith. It was very irritating.
The top of the leaderboard in the 150th Open Championship changed completely on Moving Day when Rory McIlroy and Victor Hovland scored an identical 66 to take the lead at 16-under.
Two golfers entertained a large crowd gathered around the Old Course in St Andrews as they started the day three strokes behind 36-hole leader Cameron Smith.
Each player signed for the 6-under round, but Hovland struck first after recording four straight birdies on the first nine.
The touch that Hovland has largely been missing in 2022 seemed to have come back. With a score of 4-under 32, the par-4 10th hole proved to be a turning point for the two.
"There, it had a slight match-play feel to it. I just needed to play well, and I'm glad I was able to shoot a round without any bogeys today "said Hovland.
Any three of the four seasons can appear. You smile as you hear the sound of golf spikes striking sidewalks across town.
