The DP World Tour has said that Henrik Stenson, who was named European Ryder Cup captain in March, has been removed from his responsibilities with immediate effect.

It has become evident that Henrik won't be able to meet some contractual responsibilities to Ryder Cup Europe due to decisions he made regarding his personal situation.

He is unable to remain in the position of Captain due to obligations that he made before being named captain on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, the DP World Tour announced in a press statement.

Stenson, 46, had been associated with LIV Golf for a number of months, but he effectively changed his mind when Phil Mickelson's inflammatory remarks were made public in the latter part of last year.

Stenson made a commitment to serve as Ryder Cup captain, and as part of his preparation, he also paid an initial visit to Rome. But LIV made its debut in June,

It has offered largely guaranteed salaries, wooing players such as Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka,

Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell, and Lee Westwood are leaving the group. Former British Open champion Stenson's position in the Official World Golf Ranking has dropped to 171.

The American team captain was formerly designated as Zach Johnson. In September, the Americans defeated the Europeans 19-9 at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin to claim the Ryder Cup.
