In an effort to take care of his mental health, singer Shawn Mendes abruptly put the breaks on his much anticipated global tour.

He sent a long statement on Twitter in April stating that he frequently wonders "what it is that I should be doing with my life."

Since I began travelling at age 15, it has, in fact, always been challenging for me to be away from my friends and family.

I'm going to have to postpone the following three weeks of gigs, which crushes my heart to have to announce, Mendes wrote.

The artist, who was up in Pickering, Ontario, said on his Instagram account late on Friday that a run of shows in the United States would be postponed so he could "heal and take care" of himself.

"I felt like I was ready to be back on the road after a few years off, but that choice was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the demands

He said why he needs a break: "I felt like I was ready to plunge back in, but that choice was premature and regrettably the toll of the road."

The vocalist of "Seorita" announced that he has reached a "breaking point" and will have to cancel tour dates till at least Uncasville, Connecticut on July 29.

The 23-year-old "Stitches" singer declared that he has "reached a breaking point" and needs some time away from the spotlight to take a breather and regroup.
